There are plenty of opportunities for event the rodeo fan to participate.
And if you would rather watch the rodeo from the outside the arena, that's all right too. There's bleacher space to see the action from above |

For one weekend in June, the Washington County Kansas Rodeo arena lights illuminate the cowboys and cowgirls who compete in the annual sanctioned rodeo. For three straight hours, not only will you see competitors take on tough and athletic animals but will also be entertained by the rodeo announcer, clown and acts. The traditional rodeo events include bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, calf roping, steer wrestling, team roping, barrel racing and of course bull riding. Other events sponsored are the break-a-way calf roping and 40 & over roping.
Each night, a special event is held for children under 12. Depending on the night, there either is a stick horse race for children under six and a calf scramble for children 7 - 12. Even adults can get in on the entertainment. For the past four years, The Businessmen Steer Riding Contest continues to entertain the crowd as teams consisting of three people try to out muscle a steer by saddling and riding the wild steer to the winner's circle.
or bring your own chair and blanket and sit closer on the grass. Rodeo fans are treated to a free BBQ supper traditionally held on Friday for the first 500 spectators. Saturday night spectators have the opportunity to bid on auction items. So grab a cool drink or fresh apple pie from the concession stand and prepare yourself for the best entertaiment in Washington, Kansas
